Van Gogh Starry Night Over The Rhone Print

Van Gogh Starry Night Over The Rhone Print

Okay, let's talk about Van Gogh. Specifically, Starry Night Over the Rhone. You know, the one that's not the Starry Night. The other one. The "less famous but still pretty good" one. Prepare yourselves, because I have a confession. A slightly controversial art opinion.

I kinda...maybe...possibly...like it more than the Starry Night. Gasp! I know! Art blasphemy!

Hear me out, okay? Don't @ me just yet. We've all seen Starry Night (the swirling cypress tree one). It's EVERYWHERE. Mugs, tote bags, socks – it's a cultural icon. And rightly so! It's beautiful, turbulent, full of emotion. But...is it a bit much? Sometimes, I feel like I'm staring directly into the swirling vortex of Van Gogh's tormented soul. Which, you know, is a lot to take in before my morning coffee.

Starry Night Over the Rhone? It's calmer. It's more...chill. Think of it as Starry Night's more laid-back cousin. The one who doesn't feel the need to overshare their existential angst at every family gathering.

Seriously, look at it. It's a night scene, sure, but it's not all swirling chaos. The water of the Rhone is reflecting the gaslights of Arles. It's almost...romantic? Two little figures are strolling along the riverbank. Are they in love? Are they discussing the merits of absinthe? We may never know, but it's a lovely little scene that draws you in.

And the colors! The blues are so rich and deep. The yellows and oranges from the gaslights twinkle like scattered jewels. It’s like Van Gogh bottled a perfect summer night. A night where everything feels possible, where the world is bathed in a soft, magical glow.

But Why Do I Like It More?

Maybe it's because it feels more accessible. Starry Night (the famous one) can feel overwhelming. It's a masterpiece, no doubt, but it's also...intense. Starry Night Over the Rhone, on the other hand, feels like a painting you could actually step into. You can almost smell the river and hear the gentle lapping of the water against the shore.

Plus, let's be honest, there's something about being a little contrarian that's inherently appealing. Everyone loves the 'mainstream' Starry Night. It's like the Beyonce of the art world. Amazing, iconic, but sometimes you just want to listen to some indie folk, you know?

Starry Night Over the Rhone is my indie folk. My slightly off-the-beaten-path art choice. It's the painting I'd choose to hang in my living room, not just because it's beautiful, but because it's calming and inviting.

Now, I'm not saying Starry Night (the OG) is bad. Far from it! It's a masterpiece for a reason. But sometimes, I think we get so caught up in the hype that we forget to appreciate the other gems out there. The slightly less flashy, but equally brilliant works of art.

Think of it like this: Starry Night is the dramatic, sweeping epic. Starry Night Over the Rhone is the quiet, intimate character study. Both are great, but sometimes you just need a good character study. And maybe a glass of wine. Preferably enjoyed while looking at a print of Starry Night Over the Rhone.

So, Am I Wrong?

Probably. But hey, that's the beauty of art, right? It's subjective. It's personal. What speaks to one person might not speak to another. And that's perfectly okay.

Maybe you still think I'm crazy for preferring Starry Night Over the Rhone. That's fine! You can have your swirling cypress trees and tormented souls. I'll be over here, enjoying the twinkling gaslights and the peaceful river.

And maybe, just maybe, my dream involves a quiet night by the Rhone.
