Harry Potter Pansy Parkinson

Harry Potter Pansy Parkinson

Okay, let's talk about something...controversial. Something that might get me some serious side-eye at the next Harry Potter trivia night. We need to discuss Pansy Parkinson.

I know, I know. Slytherin. Bully. Generally unpleasant. But hear me out! I think she gets a bad rap.

Firstly, can we all agree that Hogwarts was a pressure cooker? Imagine being a teenager, already dealing with hormones and homework, and then BAM! Magic! Plus, a Dark Lord is trying to kill everyone. Not exactly the ideal setting for blossoming into a compassionate humanitarian, is it?

And think about her social circle. She's surrounded by Draco Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle. Not exactly the most enlightened group of individuals. If your friends are acting like jerks, chances are, you might start acting a little jerky too. Peer pressure is real, people!

Now, I'm not saying she was a saint. Let's be honest, she was probably a bit of a mean girl. But were her actions truly EVIL? Or were they the actions of a scared, insecure teenager trying to fit in and survive in a crazy world?

Consider this: she was sorted into Slytherin. What does Slytherin value? Ambition, cunning, resourcefulness, and self-preservation. Pansy embodies these traits. She's looking out for herself and her friends, which, in a world where Voldemort is on the rise, isn't necessarily a bad thing.

And let's not forget the whole "handing Harry over to Voldemort" thing. Okay, yeah, that wasn't her finest moment. But think about it. The Battle of Hogwarts is raging. People are dying. She's likely terrified. Maybe, just maybe, she thought offering up Harry was the only way to stop the bloodshed. Desperate times, desperate measures, right?

I'm not excusing her behavior, but I'm suggesting we consider the context. Hogwarts was a warzone for years! It would mess with anyone's head.

Think of it this way: she’s the Regina George of Hogwarts, but with a wand and a homicidal maniac threatening to take over the world. Suddenly, being a bit catty seems a little less…significant.

Unpopular Opinion Alert!

I kind of feel sorry for her. I imagine her life after the war wasn't exactly a picnic. Imagine the guilt, the shame, the social stigma of being associated with the Slytherins who sided with Voldemort.

Where's her redemption arc? Where's her story of overcoming her past and becoming a better person? I'd read that book!

Maybe she opened a cat sanctuary. Maybe she became a Healer, dedicating her life to helping those injured in the war. Maybe she just lived a quiet, unremarkable life, trying to forget the horrors she witnessed. The possibilities are endless!

“It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends.” – Albus Dumbledore

And while Pansy Parkinson might not have stood up to her friends (or at least, not in the way Dumbledore envisioned), maybe, just maybe, there was a flicker of bravery hidden beneath her less-than-pleasant exterior.

So, next time you're re-reading the Harry Potter series, take a moment to consider Pansy Parkinson. Don't just dismiss her as a one-dimensional mean girl. Think about her motivations, her fears, and the circumstances she was forced to endure. You might just find yourself sympathizing with her. Or at least, understanding her a little bit better.

And hey, even if you still think she's terrible, that's okay too! We can all agree to disagree. But maybe, just maybe, I've planted a seed of doubt in your mind. A seed that says, "Perhaps Pansy Parkinson wasn't all that bad after all."

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go write some Pansy Parkinson fan fiction where she saves the world. Because, let's be honest, the world could use a little more Pansy.
