Rose Quarts Steven Universe

Rose Quarts Steven Universe

Okay, let's talk about something potentially controversial. Something that might make some Steven Universe fans clutch their pearls.

I have a confession. I'm not entirely on board with the whole Rose Quartz redemption arc. There, I said it.

Rose Quartz: Saint or Sinner?

We all know Rose Quartz. The leader of the Crystal Gems. The mother of Steven. The seemingly selfless rebel who fought for Earth.

But was she really all that selfless? Hmmm?

Don’t get me wrong, the show wants us to believe she was a force for good. A beacon of love and compassion. A true hero.

And Steven, bless his heart, spends a lot of time wrestling with her legacy. Trying to reconcile the image he has with the… well, the reality.

The "Doing What's Right" Excuse

Here’s my thing: She made some seriously questionable decisions. Leaving Pearl to pick up the emotional pieces? Keeping secrets from everyone? Starting a war that caused unimaginable damage?

Sure, she wanted to protect Earth. But at what cost?

Sometimes, I think she was just… impulsive. Like a kid who paints on the walls and then says, "But I was making art!"

Maybe it’s just me. Maybe I’m a cynical old grump. But I find it hard to completely forgive her for everything.

The Pink Diamond Problem

And let’s not even get started on the whole Pink Diamond reveal. That threw a wrench into everything.

Pretending to be someone else to start a rebellion? Tricking everyone, including her closest friends? That's some next-level deception.

It's like finding out your favorite superhero was secretly working for the bad guys all along. Messed up, right?

I get that she was trying to change the Gem Empire from the inside. I understand the motive. I really do.

But the method? A little… extreme, perhaps?

Maybe she could have tried talking things out first. A strongly worded letter? A peaceful protest? Just brainstorming here.

Steven's Burden

The biggest problem with Rose's actions is the burden she placed on Steven. He inherited a whole mess of intergalactic drama.

He had to deal with Homeworld, the Cluster, and all the emotional baggage left behind. That's a lot for a kid who just wants to eat Cookie Cats.

Imagine finding out your mom was secretly the president of a country you had no idea existed. And now you have to fix all her political blunders. Stressful!

Maybe, just maybe, she could have thought about the consequences a little more. For Steven, specifically.

Unpopular Opinion: She's Complicated!

So, yeah. My unpopular opinion is that Rose Quartz is a complicated character. Flawed. Even a little bit selfish.

She's not the perfect, saintly figure the show sometimes tries to portray her as. She's a mix of good intentions and questionable choices.

And maybe that's what makes her interesting. She isn't just some one-dimensional hero. She's a real, complex character, even if she’s made of light.

I still enjoy the show. I love the characters. I even appreciate Rose's contributions to the storyline.

But I'm not going to pretend she's perfect. Because she's not. And that's okay.

It's okay to have flaws. It's okay to make mistakes. As long as you learn from them… eventually.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go hide from the angry Rose Quartz fans. Maybe with a Cookie Cat or two.

What do you think? Am I totally off base? Or do you secretly agree with me? Let me know!
