The Chattering Lack Of Common Sense

Ever notice how everyone seems to be talking? And talking loudly? But is anyone actually… thinking?
I'm not talking rocket science here. I mean good old-fashioned, roll-up-your-sleeves, common sense.
The Silent Scream of Common Sense
It feels like common sense is hiding under a rock. Maybe it's gone on vacation? Perhaps it filed for early retirement?
Must Read
Remember the before times? When people generally understood certain things? Like, don't touch a hot stove? Or maybe, look both ways before crossing the street?
Now, I see folks doing things. Things that make me question reality. Things that make squirrels look like Rhodes Scholars.
Examples of the Madness
Take the grocery store, for instance. Why is it always a battlefield? Carts abandoned mid-aisle are common. People blocking entire sections contemplating the existential meaning of mayonnaise are also a staple.
And parallel parking? Forget about it! I witnessed someone try to squeeze a minivan into a space clearly designed for a Smart Car. The sound of scraping metal still haunts my dreams.

Then, there's the online world. Ah, the digital wild west! Filled with hot takes and questionable memes.
"A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." - Attributed to Mark Twain, though its origin is debated. But it feels true, right?
Misinformation spreads faster than gossip at a high school reunion. Suddenly, everyone's an expert on everything.
The Blame Game (Just Kidding… Mostly)
Who's to blame for this epidemic of… well, you know? Is it the fault of social media? Bad parenting? Too much screen time? Or is it something in the water?
Honestly, I don't know. I'm just a humble observer. A slightly bewildered, slightly annoyed observer, mind you.

Maybe we're overthinking things. Maybe we're all just a little bit stressed out. Maybe we need a good nap. Perhaps several naps.
Unpopular Opinions Ahead!
Brace yourselves. This might be controversial. I suspect a lot of problems could be solved by simply… using our brains!
I know, radical, right? Hear me out. Before posting that angry rant online, maybe take a deep breath. Before cutting someone off in traffic, maybe check your blind spot. Before touching the hot stove… well, you get the picture.
It's not about being perfect. We all make mistakes. It’s about trying to be a little more… aware. A little more considerate.

Dare I say, a little more… sensible?
The Quest for Common Sense: A Call to Arms (Figuratively)
So, what can we do? How can we reclaim this lost art of thinking clearly? I’m not sure, but I have some thoughts.
Maybe we should start teaching critical thinking in schools. Maybe we should all take a break from social media. Or maybe we should just spend more time talking to each other. Face to face!
Imagine a world where people actually listened. Where empathy reigned supreme. Where the phrase "common sense" wasn't an oxymoron.

Okay, maybe I'm dreaming. But a girl can hope, right?
In Conclusion (Finally!)
Look, I'm not saying I have all the answers. Far from it. I’m just throwing this out there. Hoping it resonates with someone.
Maybe, just maybe, we can start a conversation. A sensible conversation. About how to bring back the lost art of… you guessed it… common sense.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go try to parallel park my car. Wish me luck!
