Soundtrack For Sons Of Anarchy

Soundtrack For Sons Of Anarchy

Okay, let's talk Sons of Anarchy. Bikes, leather, brotherhood... and the music! We all remember that intro, right? “This Life” by Curtis Stigers and The Forest Rangers. Iconic. Goosebumps every single time.

But let's be honest. While that song defined the show, was the entire soundtrack consistently amazing? That's where my unpopular opinion comes in.

The Good Stuff: When the Music Nailed It

There were definitely moments of pure genius. Think about the covers. They weren't just slapping any old tune on there. They often twisted classic songs into something darker, more... SoA.

Like, "Forever Young" slowed down and stripped bare? Heartbreaking. Perfect for those moments when Jax was staring pensively into the middle distance, contemplating life, death, and the latest club drama. It felt right. You felt sad. You were invested. It got the message across.

Or the use of bluesy tracks during tense standoffs? Absolutely. Music to sweat by, for sure. When the tension was almost unbearable, the music was a great pairing.

My Unpopular Opinion: Did They Go Overboard?

Here's where things get tricky. Sometimes, it felt like they were trying a little too hard. Like, every single scene needed a dramatic musical backdrop. Did we really need a mournful ballad every time Jax looked at his son, Abel? I love the kid but really? The music felt heavy handed at times.

The issue is, it wasn't that the songs themselves were bad. Some of the covers were genuinely interesting takes on familiar tunes. It was more about the frequency. It's like that friend who always has to one-up your story. "Oh, you stubbed your toe? Well, I broke my entire foot and got attacked by a badger!" You start to tune them out, don't you?

And let's talk about the singer-songwriter vibes. There were episodes where it felt more like a music video interspersed with motorcycle chases than a gritty crime drama. Maybe I'm just a grumpy old biker at heart, but sometimes I wanted less folk and more… well, more motorcycle engine roar!

It's not that I hate singer-songwriters. But the contrast to the brutal biker backdrop often felt a bit jarring. Some might have been the perfect soundtrack to the scenes, most are not!

In Defense of Silence

Sometimes, silence is golden. Imagine those tense scenes in the clubhouse. The low hum of the bikes outside, the clinking of glasses, the barely-audible whispers of deals being made. That's atmosphere. Sometimes, the music just muddied the waters.

I'm not saying ditch the soundtrack entirely. Absolutely not! But maybe dial it back a notch? Let the story breathe. Let the actors do their thing without a constant emotional cue card playing in the background.

And, okay, I'll admit it. I still get chills when I hear "This Life." But maybe, just maybe, Sons of Anarchy could have been even more powerful with a little less music and a little more… well, a little more V-twin engine.

So, there you have it. My potentially controversial take on the SoA soundtrack. Agree? Disagree? Let me know! Maybe we can argue about it while blasting some heavy metal (which, let's be real, would have been a pretty awesome addition to the show). I bet that the music selection was an amazing addition to the show, though, without it I doubt this show would have been so popular!

At the end of the day, Sons of Anarchy is iconic. It's a show that will be rewatched countless times. With or without my musical complaints!
