Attack On Titan Manga Covers

Attack On Titan Manga Covers

Okay, let’s be real. We all love Attack on Titan. It's epic. But can we talk about something potentially controversial? The manga covers.

Specifically, some of them are...a choice. I'm just saying! Prepare for some (hopefully) amusing observations.

The Obvious Heroes (and Villains)

First, let’s acknowledge the obvious. Many covers feature Eren looking angsty. We get it, dude, you’ve got titan problems.

Then there's Mikasa. Usually looking stoic and ready to slice. Reliable, just like her scarf (that she wears even when it's hot!).

And Armin! Often looking thoughtful. Probably strategizing or contemplating the meaning of friendship. Bless him.

The "Dynamic" Poses

A lot of covers feature characters in action. Leaping, lunging, screaming. You know, titan stuff. Sometimes, though, it feels a bit... forced?

Like they told them, "Okay, now look like you're really, really trying to reach that shelf!" The shelf with the existential dread on it, naturally.

It's not bad, just... a bit much. A little over-the-top for my taste. Maybe I just prefer my existential dread served with a side of calm.

The Color Palette Conundrum

Another thing I've noticed? The color schemes. Lots of browns and greens. Understandable, given the setting.

But occasionally, a splash of vibrant color pops up. Usually blood red! Or maybe some unsettling yellow. It jolts you awake, that's for sure.

Is it artistically brilliant? Maybe. Does it always look good? Debatable. Sometimes I think, "Needs more teal." Just me?

The Close-Ups That Haunt My Dreams

Some covers are just extreme close-ups of faces. Like, really close. We're talking pores and individual eyelashes here.

And the expressions! Intense, wide-eyed, sometimes terrifying. I swear Reiner's cover gives me nightmares.

I appreciate the detail, I really do. But sometimes I just want to see a nice landscape. Maybe a flower. Anything but a screaming face the size of my head.

My Unpopular Opinion (Brace Yourselves)

Okay, here it comes. My super-controversial, possibly blasphemous opinion: Some of the early Attack on Titan covers are... kind of bland.

Don't get me wrong! The story is amazing. But some of the initial covers lacked that visual punch, you know? Felt a little generic shonen.

They got better, much better! The later covers are gorgeous. But those early ones... they're like the awkward teenage phase of manga covers. We all have one.

In Defense of Blandness (Sort Of)

Maybe the "blandness" was intentional? To lure us in with a false sense of security? Then BAM! Titans!

Or maybe the artist was still finding their style. Art evolves, right? Like Eren's abs. (Sorry, I had to.)

Whatever the reason, I can't help but chuckle at the contrast. From humble beginnings to epic masterpieces. The covers mirror the story!

The Titan Form Covers

We can't forget the titan forms. Colossal, Armored, Female... they all get their moment in the spotlight. Or should I say, moonlight?

Those covers are usually pretty cool. Menacing, powerful, and often quite disturbing. Exactly what you'd expect from a giant, naked humanoid.

Though sometimes I wonder, do they get cold? Should we knit them some tiny titan sweaters?

Final Thoughts (and a Plea)

Ultimately, the Attack on Titan manga covers are a reflection of the series itself. A rollercoaster of emotions, intensity, and occasional awkwardness.

Do I love them all? No. Do I appreciate them? Absolutely. They're a visual representation of a story that’s captivated millions.

So, next time you see an Attack on Titan manga cover, take a moment to really look at it. Maybe you'll see something new. Or maybe you'll just agree with me that some of them are a little weird. Either way, happy reading! And someone, please, knit Bertolt a scarf.
