Okay, let’s play a game! Think of a seven-letter word. It has to start with the letter P. What springs to mind? I bet I know one strong contender.

It's probably not pretzel, though those are delicious. And probably not protest, unless you’re currently involved in one. But what about perfect?

Chasing perfect is like chasing a unicorn. It's mythical. It’s unattainable. You'll just end up tired and slightly glittery.

Think about it. Have you ever met someone who described themselves as perfect? If so, did you immediately want to be their best friend? Probably not!

That’s because perfect people are boring. They're unrelatable. They probably don't spill coffee on themselves (the horror!).

Embrace the Imperfect

So what’s the alternative? Embracing the imperfect. Celebrating the flaws. Letting go of the need to be perfect.

A crooked smile is more charming than a forced one. A messy bun is more comfortable than perfectly coiffed hair. Burnt cookies have character!

Imperfection is what makes us human. It’s what makes us interesting. It’s what makes us, well… us.

Who needs perfect when you can have authentic? Authentic is raw. Authentic is real. Authentic is way more fun.

The Joy of "Good Enough"

Sometimes, “good enough” is perfectly adequate. That presentation doesn’t need to be flawless. That dinner doesn’t need to be Michelin-star worthy.

As my grandma used to say, "Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good." She made amazing, but slightly lopsided, pies.

Striving for excellence is great. Obsessing over perfect is not. One leads to growth. The other leads to stress and anxiety.

So, next time you find yourself chasing perfect, take a deep breath. Remember that unicorn. And maybe eat a pretzel (a delightfully imperfect snack).

Let’s consider some other seven-letter P words. Present? Definitely strive to be present in the moment. It's much better than dwelling on past imperfections, or fretting about a perfect future.

Premium? Sure, buy the better quality ingredients. But remember that even the cheapest brand of chocolate can make a delicious (imperfect) brownie.

Perhaps my love/hate relationship with this P word is an overreaction. But maybe, just maybe, letting go of the pressure to be perfect is the most liberating thing you can do.
