From meticulously tracking macros to choking down protein shakes that taste suspiciously like dirt, the “right” way seems awfully complicated.

The Unpopular Opinion: Just Eat (a Lot)

Yep, that's it. My revolutionary bulking strategy? Eat more. I know, I know. Groundbreaking stuff. But hear me out.

We're bombarded with information. Count calories! Track your macros! Intermittent fasting! Carb cycling! It's enough to make you want to throw your hands up and just eat a salad. (Please don't.)

The truth is, for most of us average Joes and Janes, obsessing over every single gram of protein is overkill. Your body isn't a hyper-sensitive scientific instrument. It's a surprisingly robust, adaptable machine. It needs fuel, and a lot of it, to build something new. Think of it like building a house. You can't build a mansion with a single brick, can you?

So, what should you eat? Well, that's where the “a lot” part comes in. Eat real food. Chicken, steak, eggs, rice, potatoes, pasta, vegetables. And yes, even the occasional burger and fries. (Don't tell the fitness gurus.) The key is to consistently eat more than you burn.

Okay, okay, I'm not saying throw all caution to the wind and just mainline donuts. But instead of meticulously calculating your TDEE and meticulously tracking every calorie, try this instead: just add more food to what you're already eating.

Are you usually satisfied after two slices of pizza? Have three. Do you normally eat one chicken breast? Eat two. A little extra rice? A handful of nuts? A protein shake? All good additions to your diet!

Listen to your body. If you're starving, eat something! If you're feeling sluggish, maybe ease off the gas a little. It’s about finding a sustainable surplus, not a crash-and-burn diet that leaves you feeling miserable.

Train Hard, But Smart

Lift heavy, but maintain good form. Progressive overload is key. That means gradually increasing the weight you lift over time. This is what signals to your body that it needs to grow stronger (and bigger).

And for the love of all that is holy, get enough sleep! Your muscles don't grow in the gym; they grow when you're resting. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night.
