Houston in November: An Unpopular Opinion

Okay, Houston, let's talk about November. Everyone loves it. Pumpkin spice everything. Sweater weather. Thanksgiving cheer. But, and this is a big but… I have some thoughts. Maybe unpopular ones.

First, let's address the "sweater weather." Is it really? Like, consistently sweater weather? I think not. More like "tank top in the morning, light jacket by noon, regret everything at 3 PM" weather. The temperature swings in November are wilder than a rodeo bull. You leave the house prepared for the Arctic, only to be sweating bullets by the time you get to the grocery store.

And don't even get me started on the layering game. It's an art form, really. A performance piece. You're shedding clothes like a snake shedding its skin. Then stuffing them all into your oversized tote bag, which is already overflowing with reusable grocery bags and that book you swear you're going to read.

Then there's the humidity. "But it's November! The humidity is gone!" someone always proclaims, usually while their hair is sticking to their forehead. Listen, Houston humidity is like a persistent houseguest. It might go on vacation for a day, but it always comes back. It’s that friend who overstays their welcome, even after you subtly start turning off the lights and yawning aggressively.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, which I do love (the food, specifically), let's be honest about the stress levels. Hosting? Forget about it. You're basically running a marathon in your kitchen, fueled by caffeine and the desperate hope that the turkey isn't dry. Traveling? Even worse. Bush Airport in November? A chaotic, gravy-soaked nightmare. Pack your patience (and maybe a small vial of Xanax).

I will concede one point: the sunsets. Houston sunsets in November are pretty spectacular. They paint the sky in hues of orange, pink, and purple. They're so stunning, they almost make you forget about the unpredictable weather and the impending holiday madness… almost.

And let's not forget the random rain showers. Just when you think you've got a handle on the day's wardrobe, BAM! A surprise downpour. Cue the frantic search for an umbrella, which you inevitably left in your other car/at the office/at the bottom of your bag under that half-eaten bag of chips.

But I digress. I do love Houston. I really do. And even with its November quirks, there's still something special about it. Maybe it's the collective resilience of Houstonians, who can handle anything from hurricanes to humidity to the never-ending construction on 610. Maybe it’s the sheer variety of amazing food that always manages to lift your spirits, rain or shine.

Maybe it's the hope that next November will be the perfect, consistently cool, low-humidity, stress-free November we all dream of. But let's be real. That's about as likely as finding a parking spot at the Galleria on a Saturday.

So, yeah, November in Houston. It's complicated. It's unpredictable. It's a little bit crazy. But hey, at least it's not August. And we always have those sunsets, right?

And pie. Don't forget the pie. Thanksgiving pie is always a win.
