Nina Dobrev On The Vampire Diaries

Nina Dobrev: Let's Talk Vampire Diaries (and Maybe Her Hair)
Okay, let's be honest. We all binged The Vampire Diaries, right? Even if you pretend you didn't, I know you secretly shipped Delena or Stelena.
The Elena Gilbert Effect
Now, Elena Gilbert. Bless her heart. She was...a lot. Always in peril, always needing saving.
I have a slightly controversial opinion, though. Sometimes, I felt like she was the weakest link in that whole supernatural chain. Don't @ me!
Must Read
And let's not even get started on the love triangle. It felt like it lasted approximately 87 seasons. So. Much. Brooding.
Katherine Pierce: Now We're Talking!
But then, BAM! Katherine Pierce struts in. Suddenly, things got interesting.
Nina Dobrev absolutely killed it as Katherine. The sass, the manipulation, the sheer fabulousness of it all!
Seriously, can we just give her an award for that performance? Double the role, double the awesome.

Unpopular Opinion Time: Katherine > Elena?
Okay, deep breath. Here it comes. I might actually prefer Katherine Pierce to Elena Gilbert. ducks for cover
Katherine was complex. She was flawed. She was a survivor. Elena? Sweet, but kinda predictable.
Tell me I'm not alone in thinking that Katherine had a lot more depth.
I mean, think about it. Katherine spent centuries dodging Klaus! Elena spent most of her time dodging falling debris and bad boy vampires (which, let's face it, isn't the worst problem to have).

The Hair, The Outfits, The Drama!
And let's not forget the hairstyles. Nina Dobrev rocked every single one. From Elena's simple waves to Katherine's vampy curls.
Seriously, my Pinterest boards were overflowing with "Elena Gilbert Hair Inspiration" for a while there. And those early 2010s outfits? Iconic (in a slightly questionable way).
The dramatic entrances, the witty comebacks... Katherine Pierce just owned every scene she was in.
Nina's Range: Impressive, Right?
Honestly, the fact that Nina Dobrev could play both roles so convincingly is a testament to her talent.

She nailed the sweet, innocent girl-next-door. And then she transformed into this cunning, ruthless vampire. It's honestly impressive!
I mean, imagine having to switch between those two characters all the time. That's gotta be exhausting!
The Doppelganger Drama (Oh Boy)
And then the whole doppelganger thing happened. Suddenly, we had even MORE Nina Dobrev on our screens.
I'm not complaining, but it did get a little confusing at times. Was that Elena? Was that Katherine? Was that some OTHER long-lost relative?

At some point, I just threw my hands up and accepted that I was watching a Nina Dobrev masterclass in character acting.
So, Thank You, Nina!
So, thank you, Nina Dobrev. Thank you for giving us Elena Gilbert. Thank you for giving us Katherine Pierce. And thank you for making The Vampire Diaries so ridiculously addictive.
Even if I secretly rooted for the "bad girl" most of the time.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I need to go rewatch some Katherine Pierce scenes. Purely for research purposes, of course.
"Hello, John! Goodbye, John!" - Katherine Pierce
Iconic. Just iconic.
