Weather In July In San Diego

San Diego in July: An Unpopular Opinion
Ah, July in San Diego. Images of sun-kissed beaches and perfect weather dance in your head, right? Everyone raves about it. But let's be honest, folks. I have a confession. And it might be a bit...controversial.
Here it is: July in San Diego is… fine. Just fine.
I know, I know! Gasps are being gasped. Pearls are being clutched. But hear me out.
Must Read
The main draw is the supposed perfect weather. But "perfect" can be a bit… boring, can't it? Think about it. Day after day of sunny skies. No rain in sight. It's like a weather groundhog day. Pleasant? Absolutely. Thrilling? Debatable.
Let's talk about the sunshine. Yes, it's sunny. Very sunny. You will need sunglasses. And sunscreen. And possibly a wide-brimmed hat. And maybe even a personal shade assistant. Okay, I'm exaggerating. Slightly. But the sun is no joke! Don't even think about skipping the SPF. You’ll regret it.

Then there's the temperature. Mild. Generally around the low 70s. Again, nice. But where's the drama? Where's the excitement? Give me a good thunderstorm every now and then. Or a surprise heatwave just to keep things interesting. San Diego in July is like that friend who always orders the same thing at a restaurant. Reliable? Sure. Predictable? Definitely.
And don’t even get me started on the crowds. July is peak tourist season. Which means battling for parking at the beach. Waiting in long lines for brunch. And navigating a sea of flip-flops on the boardwalk. Personal space becomes a distant memory. It’s like everyone decided to descend on San Diego at the same time, all craving that “perfect” July weather.

"But the beaches are beautiful!", I hear you cry. And yes, they are. Stunning, even. But so are they in September. Or October. Or even a crisp, sunny day in January! The ocean doesn’t suddenly become more scenic just because it's July.
The water temperature? Don't get your hopes up. Even in July, the Pacific Ocean is… refreshing. Let's just say you'll feel alive when you first dip your toes in. Maybe even gasp a little. Okay, maybe more than a little. Unless you’re rocking a wetsuit, be prepared for a chilly welcome.
Of course, there are perks to visiting San Diego in July. The Del Mar Races are in full swing. There are countless outdoor concerts and events. And the sunsets are undeniably spectacular. But these things happen year-round too. Just saying.

Maybe I’m just a contrarian. Maybe I prefer my weather with a little more… personality. Give me a misty morning, a dramatic sunset, or even a rogue rain shower. Anything to break up the monotony of perpetual sunshine. The weather in San Diego on the other hand is really a great draw for visitors and residents looking for consistently pleasant conditions.
Don't get me wrong. I appreciate the consistent sunshine. I love a good beach day. But sometimes, I crave a little weather chaos. A little unpredictability. Something to make me appreciate the "perfect" weather even more.

So, there you have it. My unpopular opinion. San Diego in July is perfectly… adequate. And maybe, just maybe, a little overrated. But hey, at least the avocado toast is good.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go find a cloud. Or maybe just turn on the AC really high. Wish me luck!
Just remember to pack your sunscreen!
