Gintama Watch Order With Movies

Gintama Watch Order With Movies

Okay, let's talk about Gintama. Specifically, how to watch it. Because honestly, the watch order is more confusing than Sadaharu after a sugar rush.

The "Official" Order: A Noble Lie

You'll see guides everywhere. They'll tell you, "Start with episode 1! It's crucial!" And then proceed to list seasons and movies in a perfect, chronological line. Lies, all lies!

Sure, that's a way to watch it. But is it the best way? I dare to say no. Hear me out!

My Wildly Unpopular Opinion

Forget episode 1. Just…forget it exists for now. I know, blasphemy!

But trust me. Start with episode 3. Or even episode 5. You can survive without the "introductory" episodes. Seriously. No one truly remembers them anyway.

They are boring and slow. They are not a good way to hook someone into this amazing series. They will give you a false idea of what Gintama is.

Movies: When to Get Serious-ish

Now, the movies. Those are a bit trickier. The first one, Gintama: The Movie (Often called Benizakura Arc), is a recap. Watch it after you've seen the Benizakura arc in the anime. Duh!

It's a nice refresher. Plus, the animation is pretty. But not essential to the plot, really.

Then there's Gintama: The Final Chapter: Be Forever Yorozuya. Now this one is important. Watch it after season 2. That's generally agreed upon.

The Actual Final: THE VERY FINAL

And finally, the actual final movie (allegedly, for real this time), Gintama: The Final. This one is meant to be watched after everything else. I mean, the name says it all.

It concludes the entire story. So don't jump the gun and spoil yourself. Be patient, young Padawan.

A Simpler (and Sassier) Breakdown

So, here's my super simplified, slightly chaotic, yet highly effective Gintama watch order:

Chronological Gintama watch order (please read the notes carefully) : r
Chronological Gintama watch order (please read the notes carefully) : r
  • Skip the first few episodes. (Start with 3 or 5. I said it!)
  • Watch seasons 1 and 2.
  • Watch Gintama: The Movie (Benizakura Arc) after you've seen the arc in the series.
  • Watch Gintama: The Final Chapter: Be Forever Yorozuya.
  • Finish the rest of the series (seasons 3 onwards).
  • Watch Gintama: The Final.

Why This Works (Probably)

Starting with later episodes gets you into the heart of the humor faster. You'll be laughing alongside the characters, and their antics will have you hooked right away!

Then you can go back and watch the early episodes. You might even appreciate them more. Or you can skip them entirely. I won't judge.

Remember, this is just my opinion. You can watch it however you want. But if you're struggling to get into Gintama, maybe give my method a try. You might be surprised!

Ultimately, the point is to enjoy the wild ride that is Gintama. So, grab some strawberry milk, settle in, and get ready to laugh your butt off.

Just don't blame me if you get addicted to Kondo's gorilla antics. That's between you and the Shinsengumi.

Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any Gintama-induced addiction, spontaneous cosplay, or uncontrollable urges to shout "Gintoki!" in public.

Happy watching!
