Chattanooga Choo Choo Train Car Rooms

Chattanooga Choo Choo Train Car Rooms

Okay, let’s talk about something. Something near and dear to my heart (and possibly my inner child). It's about the Chattanooga Choo Choo and its train car rooms.

I have an unpopular opinion. Prepare yourselves.

Train Car Rooms: Are They Actually All That?

Everyone raves about staying in a train car. It's "charming," they say. "Quirky!" they exclaim. But are we all just pretending a little bit?

The Novelty Factor

I get it. The novelty is undeniable. Sleeping in a repurposed train car sounds amazing. Imagine yourself whisked away on a glamorous journey!

But let's be honest. That "journey" is just from the parking lot to your room.

And sometimes, novelty wears off. Quickly.

Space Constraints (A.K.A. Claustrophobia Central)

Train cars weren't exactly designed for spacious living. They were built for transporting people and things.

Think narrow hallways. Compact bathrooms. And luggage? Forget about it! Where does one put a suitcase in a train car room?

Unless you pack light, you are going to be tripping.

The "Charming" Vintage Aesthetic

Sure, "vintage" sounds romantic. It conjures images of polished wood and plush velvet.

The reality can be a bit different. Think: worn carpets. Sticking windows. And that distinct, slightly musty, "old train" smell.

Charm can quickly turn into a need for serious Febreze action.

The Rock-a-Bye (or Not) Effect

One would assume train car rooms are, well, still. Stationary. But sometimes, you swear you can feel a slight sway.

Maybe it’s the power of suggestion. Maybe it’s just the plumbing. But I have experienced strange rumbling.

Is this "relaxing"? I'll let you decide.

My (Possibly Controversial) Confession

Here it is: I've stayed in a Chattanooga Choo Choo train car room. It was...fine.

Don’t get me wrong. The grounds are beautiful. The history is captivating. The Choo Choo itself is a marvel.

But the room? It was a room. In a train car.

Comfort Over Concept?

Maybe I'm just a creature of comfort. I appreciate a spacious bathroom. And ample storage.

Perhaps I prefer a bed that doesn't feel like it's about to launch me onto the floor.

Is that so wrong?

The Price Tag Paradox

Train car rooms often come with a premium price. You are paying for the experience, after all.

But for the same price, you could get a much larger, more modern hotel room. Potentially, with a pool view.

Just saying.

Hear Me Out...

I'm not saying train car rooms are terrible. They can be fun. Especially for families with young children.

There's something inherently cool about telling people you slept on a train. Bragging rights, baby!

I am merely suggesting a dose of realism.

Lower Your Expectations?

Go into it knowing it's a train car. Not a luxury suite. Manage your expectations.

Embrace the quirks. Laugh at the cramped quarters. And bring extra air freshener.

You might just have a fantastic time! I'm all for it.

The Verdict: Fun, But Not Essential

The Chattanooga Choo Choo is an icon. Worth visiting. Worth experiencing. Even if you choose not to sleep in a train car.

There's plenty of other lodging in the area. You are not missing out on the core experience if you pick a standard hotel room.

So, is staying in a train car room overrated? In my humble (and apparently unpopular) opinion... possibly.
