It’s like, everyone in the show, especially the antagonists, all have some really messed up backstory. It explains a lot, but doesn't excuse anything!

Finally, there's Gray, the priest, who is arguably the most enigmatic of the Floor Masters. He knows more than he lets on, and he seems to be pulling the strings behind the scenes. He is the personification of twisted faith. I mean, the guy is literally a priest, but his views on sin and salvation are warped beyond recognition. He brings in the spiritual and ethical questions that make the anime more than just a violent romp.

What makes the characters of Angels of Death so compelling is that they're not just one-dimensional villains or heroes.
