Top Ten Places To Visit In Ontario

Top Ten Places To Visit In Ontario

Hey there, travel buddy! So, you're thinking about exploring Ontario, eh? Smart move! It's basically Canada's awesome playground. But with SO much to see, where do you even start? Don't worry, I got you. I've compiled my totally biased (but totally amazing) list of the top ten places you HAVE to visit. Grab your Tim Hortons and let's dive in!

1. Niagara Falls: Duh!

Okay, okay, I know. *So* predictable. But come on! Have you *seen* Niagara Falls? It’s like, a ridiculous amount of water just plummeting down. Seriously, it’s magnificent! Plus, Clifton Hill is a whole other level of weird and wonderful. Think haunted houses, wax museums, and enough flashing lights to trigger a seizure (kidding... mostly!). Don't forget the boat tour, *Maid of the Mist*. Prepare to get soaked! Worth it? Absolutely.

2. Algonquin Provincial Park: Get Your Nature On!

Feeling a little too "city"? Escape to Algonquin! It's massive – seriously, like, bigger than some countries. Canoe trips, hiking trails, camping under the stars… it’s basically the quintessential Canadian experience. Keep an eye out for moose! They're majestic (and occasionally grumpy). And don't forget your bug spray! The mosquitoes are practically the official bird of Algonquin. You've been warned!

3. Toronto: City Slicker Central

Alright, gotta include the big smoke! Toronto has something for everyone. World-class museums? Check. Amazing food from every corner of the globe? Double check. The CN Tower? Obvs. Plus, vibrant neighborhoods like Kensington Market and Queen West are just begging to be explored. Just try not to get lost in the PATH - it's an underground labyrinth! Shopping, entertainment, and enough people-watching to fuel a reality TV show. What's not to love?

4. Prince Edward County: Wine and Cheese, Please!

Calling all foodies and wine lovers! Prince Edward County (or PEC, as the cool kids call it) is Ontario's answer to Napa Valley. Rolling vineyards, charming towns, and sandy beaches await. Spend your days sipping award-winning wines and indulging in artisanal cheeses. Feeling adventurous? Try sandboarding at the Sandbanks Provincial Park. It's way more fun than it sounds (and way less graceful than it looks).

5. Ottawa: Not Just Politicians!

Okay, I know what you're thinking: "Ottawa? Isn't that just, like, where the government hangs out?" Yes, but it’s SO much more! The Parliament Buildings are stunning (especially lit up at night), and the museums are top-notch. Plus, the ByWard Market is a bustling hub of food stalls, shops, and nightlife. Don’t forget to try a BeaverTail! (It’s a pastry, not an actual beaver tail, FYI). Bonus points: ice skating on the Rideau Canal in winter!

6. Muskoka: Cottage Country Bliss

Picture this: crystal-clear lakes, towering pines, and cozy cottages. That's Muskoka in a nutshell. This is where Torontonians escape to for a little R&R. Boating, swimming, fishing, or just lounging on a dock with a good book… Muskoka is all about slowing down and soaking up the scenery. Just be prepared for some serious cottage envy. And maybe a close encounter with a raccoon raiding your garbage. Just sayin'.

7. Thousand Islands: Island Hopping Adventure

Okay, so it's *actually* over 1,800 islands, but who's counting? The Thousand Islands region is a stunning archipelago dotted with historic castles, charming villages, and breathtaking scenery. Take a boat tour, explore Boldt Castle (it's a love story gone wrong!), or go kayaking among the islands. It’s ridiculously picturesque, perfect for Instagram-worthy shots. Are you packing your bags yet?

8. Manitoulin Island: Indigenous Culture and Natural Beauty

Manitoulin Island is the largest freshwater island in the world! It's a unique blend of Indigenous culture and unspoiled natural beauty. Explore hiking trails, visit the Cup and Saucer Trail for stunning views, and learn about the rich history and traditions of the Anishinaabe people. It’s a truly special place that offers a glimpse into a different side of Ontario.

9. Stratford: Shakespeare Under the Stars (Maybe!)

Fancy a little culture? Head to Stratford, home of the renowned Stratford Festival. Catch a Shakespeare play (or a modern classic) and soak up the town's charming atmosphere. Stroll along the Avon River, browse the shops, and enjoy a delicious meal at one of the many restaurants. Warning: you might accidentally start talking in iambic pentameter. It happens.

10. Sault Ste. Marie: The Soo Locks and Beyond!

Okay, maybe not the most glamorous place on the list, but hear me out! Sault Ste. Marie (or "The Soo") is home to the famous Soo Locks, which allow ships to navigate between Lake Superior and the lower Great Lakes. Take a boat tour, visit the Agawa Canyon Train Tour (especially stunning in the fall!), and explore the city's history. Plus, it's a great base for exploring the natural beauty of Northern Ontario. Don't knock it 'til you try it!

So there you have it! My top ten places to visit in Ontario. Obviously, there's tons more to explore, but this is a good starting point. Now get out there and discover the beauty of Ontario! And don’t forget to send me a postcard! (Or, you know, tag me in your Instagram posts. Whichever is easier.) Happy travels!
