How To Clean Mold Mildew In Shower

How To Clean Mold Mildew In Shower

Okay, let's talk about that fuzzy green roommate you probably didn't invite: mold and mildew in your shower. We've all been there. Don't even try to pretend you haven't. It's like, you blink, and suddenly your shower looks like it's auditioning for a horror movie.

The Great Shower Standoff: You vs. The Mold

First, let's be honest. Cleaning the shower is nobody's favorite pastime. I'd rather fold laundry. Yes, I said it. That's probably an unpopular opinion, but whatever. Showers are just…awkward. All that crouching and contorting? No thanks.

But, alas, the mold must be vanquished. So, here's my highly scientific (not really) guide to tackling the shower invaders.

Grab a spray bottle. Now, the internet will tell you all sorts of fancy things to put in it. Lemon juice, baking soda, vinegar, unicorn tears… I’m just kidding about the unicorn tears.

Honestly? I usually grab whatever cleaning product is closest. Sometimes it's bleach. Sometimes it's some "eco-friendly" lavender-scented spray that promises to save the planet while simultaneously removing soap scum. I’m not convinced it does either particularly well, but hey, it smells nice.

Spray liberally. Don't be shy. Pretend you're watering a very unattractive, moldy garden. Let it sit for a bit. This is important. Give the cleaner time to, you know, clean.

Now, the scrubbing. This is where the fun… I mean, the hard work begins. Get yourself a good scrub brush. One with a long handle is key. Save your back! We're trying to conquer mold, not develop scoliosis.

Scrub. Scrub like you mean it. Scrub like you're taking out all your frustrations on that little patch of black fuzz. Scrub like your life depends on it! Okay, maybe that's a bit dramatic. But seriously, scrub.

The Grout Gauntlet

Ah, grout. The bane of every shower cleaner's existence. It's like mold's favorite playground. Those tiny little crevices just begging to be filled with disgusting grime.

For grout, I find an old toothbrush is your best friend. Seriously. A dedicated grout toothbrush. Don't go using your actual toothbrush. That would be…unpleasant.

Dip the toothbrush in your cleaning solution of choice and scrub, scrub, scrub! This takes patience. This takes perseverance. This takes the ability to binge-watch something on your phone while simultaneously attacking your grout. Multitasking is key.

Rinse and Repeat (Hopefully Not Too Often)

Once you've scrubbed to your heart's content, rinse everything down with hot water. Make sure you get all the cleaner off. Nobody wants to shower in cleaning chemicals. That’s just asking for trouble.

Now, admire your handiwork. Bask in the glory of a (mostly) mold-free shower. You did it! You survived the shower showdown!

Of course, the mold will probably be back. It's persistent like that. Think of it as a roommate who refuses to pay rent but also refuses to move out. The key is to stay vigilant. Spray your shower down after each use. Leave the door open to air it out. Sacrifice a small woodland creature to the shower gods... Just kidding! Don't do that.

Seriously though, a little prevention goes a long way. Maybe invest in a good shower squeegee. I know, I know, it sounds like a chore. But trust me, it's easier than scrubbing mold for hours.

And remember, if all else fails, you can always hire a professional. There's no shame in admitting defeat. Especially when it comes to shower mold. Sometimes, you just have to wave the white flag and call in the reinforcements.

So, go forth and conquer your shower mold! May your grout be ever in your favor! And may your showers be sparkling and (mostly) mold-free!

Good luck. You'll need it.
